Excerpt:

But Rook had no interest in waiting for permission. He’d come forward, snaking his arms around Toren’s sheet-covered waist and pulling him hard against his body. “It’s just a kiss,” Rook breathed before he put his lips against Toren’s. Should he protest? Had he protested? Toren couldn’t remember. In that moment there was nothing but Rook’s firm lips, gently teasing his own apart. Toren kissed back, tasting the other man, sucking at his bottom lip. Rook’s mouth was intoxicating, and quite suddenly, Toren forgot why he’d ever resisted. He liked kissing Rook. But after only an appetizer’s worth of his mouth, Rook pulled away. The sensation of their mouths pressed together lingered, and Toren was dumb with the moment. Lost on it. Uncertain what they’d even been talking about.

“Do you remember me now?” Rook asked.

“Mmn,” Toren agreed, warmth lingering on his lips. “Rook.”

Silence was his reply. The arms around his waist fell away, leaving him feeling cold.

Toren slowly opened his eyes to find he was standing alone, clutching his sheet, as Rook walked away from him toward the staircase.

synopsis

Who makes YOUR choices?

"I was once the type of person who was impressed by starlight; the type of person who would dance beneath glass ceilings and let the world swim in its loveliness. The sky reminds me of the parties we used to throw - parties like the one last night. The memories bring back the trill of harps and endless ripples of satisfied laughter. Now, though, when I try to recall what I felt, all I hear is screaming."

In a world ravaged by war and oppressive forces of evil, a princess must fight to claim her bloodright and save her people.

When the princess, Alondra, falls for the beautiful, blue eyes of a hooded stranger, it awakens in her a taste for freedom and an escape from her duty.

But her parents have other plans; they have a kingdom to protect and Alondra must marry to ensure the peace between nations. Only what happens when your parents choose a cold-hearted assassin as your betrothed?

As lies, illusions, and long hidden vendettas surface, the princess has to confront a very secret history. One that makes her realize that she not only risks losing her liberty, but also everything she has known and loved.

CURSE OF THE BEAST by DONINA LYNN

He wants revenge. She wants to save him from what he’s determined to become.

Thank you having me here today! I’m so excited to be sharing my first paranormal romance with you!

Curse Of The Beast is a story about how life can throw so much in your direction that you’re ready to wave the white flag and surrender. Grayson, our shapeshifting hero, has not only reached that point, he’s been pushed over it when his father is murdered. Grayson is alone, angry, tired of struggling and is more than ready to give up everything. That is, until, he meets the one person that can show him there is still something worth fighting for—love.

I hope you enjoy the story and make sure you take a moment to head on over and like my new Facebook author page HERE. Everyone that does is automatically entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card. Winner to be announced on Halloween! Good Luck! :)

BLURB:

All of his life, Grayson Blackpaw lived by the rules of the half-breeds. He heeded the warnings and fought to keep the animal within under control, only to have his father murdered by the very thing his kind could never harm. Even if it means cursing himself to spend the rest of his days as a beast, Grayson was going to find the human responsible and make them pay—with their life.

Shapeshifters exist. Summer Jenkins wouldn’t have believed it herself, if she hadn’t watched a cougar change into a man before her very eyes. It doesn’t hurt when the man is as delectable as Grayson, either. Utterly droolworthy, Grayson sends her pulse racing and her heart falling...fast. But when Grayson admits that he’s willing to give up everything for the sake of revenge, will love be enough or can nothing stop the curse of the beast?

EXCERPT:

Summer inched over on the couch until her knees brushed against his, and she placed her hand on his thigh. It was a simple gesture of reassurance but the heat of her hand seeped through the denim, branding his skin and shooting higher. Desire flooded his veins and Summer’s breathing hitched when she felt it course through him. “He wasn’t the only one to touch me in some way, Grayson.”

Beginning to slowly make her way up his inner leg, Grayson grabbed her wrist before she closed what little distance there was left. If she made it to her destination, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself. He was already growing rigid in mere anticipation of her touching his length. If she actually made contact, he would lose what little restraint he held on to.

“Summer. I would like nothing more than to pull that dress up, plunge deep inside and take you over and over again, letting you know exactly how much I want you. But, we can’t. I won’t take the chance of hurting you.”

“You’re not going to hurt me. Worrying that you will is enough for me to know that you won’t.”

“You can’t know that because even I don’t. Summer, you need to understand there’s a chance I will do exactly that.” Grayson shook his head and took a breath. He wasn’t sure he could explain the constant battle of wills that had been waging inside of him for as long as he could remember, or how he’d been losing, but he needed to try. It wasn’t him just being overly cautious, there was a real danger. If he lost what little hold he had on the cougar while he was with her, he didn’t know what would or could happen. Grayson didn’t even want to think of the possibilities. “The lure of our animal halves is strong. The more we give in to them, the stronger they become. The stronger they become, the more we give in to them. Without something to stop the progression, the animal and its instincts become the predominant half and slowly overpower the human’s ability to remain in control.”

“So the worst that can happen is you shift into the cougar. I can handle…”

Grayson shook his head to cut her off. That damn stubbornness of hers was more than a little frustrating. “No Summer, you can’t. The worst that can happen is not the cougar. It’s the beast.”

About the author

My first book, Revival, published in 2006 by the South African Short Story Publishing Association, introduced South Africa to her first Gay Literary detective, Rain Godart. I now self publish my M/M Romance stories under the Coooldudes Publishing banner, a publishing company started up to distribute my works. In 2008 I won the Marion Scher award for pushing the bounderies of writing, and I head up the editing program for gayauthors.org. I am an affiliate member of PEG (Professional Editing Group) of South Africa. I have a full time job as a despatch manager and at night I turn into a wordsmith almost magically. I currently edit for many writers abroad, and also act as a literary agent for many of my clients. I live in Germiston, South Africa, 6000 feet above sea level where no Tsunami can touch me or my family. I am married to my best friend, have a son, and two damned naughty Yorkshire Terriers named Bobby and Caesar. Strangely, my husband's name is also Louis, and our son's name is Louis too. Well, make that Louis three. I have fallen in love with M/M erotic romance, and chew too much gum while writing the heat scenes for my stories. I know that's bad for teeth and gums, right, but I can't seem to stop, chewing gum that is.

Excerpt

Not many people invited Keegan out. There was the time that Patrick invited him to play ten pin bowling and the time that he and Jean went to movies at Sandton City. It was difficult for him to get around. Not having a car inhibited his movements. He would dearly love to go out more often but it was no fault of his that he did not have transport. He couldn’t afford it on his bursary. Having to reply on others for transport meant that he would have to schedule lifts to and from varsity, to and from practice, to and from competitions. It wasn’t easy. It felt as if he owed the whole world favours.

The first thing that surprised him was that Conrad opened the car door for him. Nice touch. Gentlemanly. From that moment Keegan held a new respect for him. It felt like he was being courted, and he enjoyed it.

‘Hey handsome, you're looking good. How’s the elbow?’

‘I washed it properly in the bath and applied more disinfectant. Hurts a little but otherwise it’s just fine. You look different.’

‘Must be the hair.’

‘It is, hey you shaved it off. Actually, bald suits you. Brings out your brown eyes.’

‘My hairdresser was surprised when I told her I wanted to go bald. You know what she said?’

‘Tell me.’

‘She said that such a change means that something drastic had happened in my life.’

‘She said that?’

‘Yup. I told her I don’t really think the word is drastic as much as fantastic.’

‘You said that? So what did you mean? Did you win the lotto?’

‘Not as crazy at that. I meant you. I never once thought you and I would ever be friends. I think that’s fantastic.’

Keegan’s face burned from the compliment. ‘Well, that’s…that’s …likewise. Thank you. The feeling is mutual,’ he said.

Conrad shut the passenger door and climbed into his side of the vehicle. ‘You still hurting?’

“A little. Not much.’

‘I wish it was me that he’d beat on.’

That statement was enough to send Keegan’s mind into overdrive. Guy friends didn’t say that to each other. Well, they did, especially if there’s caring involved. And then he said something even stranger.

‘It hurts me to see you in pain, bro.’

‘Believe me, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of Marx’s punches. Not cool. So where are we going? What do you have in mind?’

‘A quiet supper. Just the two of us.’

‘Sounds cool.’

‘You don’t mind me taking you out for supper?’

‘It’s not like we’re on a date, right? I mean, we’re just two guys enjoying a supper, right?’

‘Yes. On both counts. Just two guys enjoying good food. Nothing more.’

‘Then why would you ask if I mind?’

Keegan found out very quickly why Conrad had asked him that question

The restaurant, settled in a neat suburb just off the main highway, was cosy, dressed in warmth and the smell of Italian cooking from the kitchen. They were ushered into a small booth with a candle lit table and soft music plying the airwaves. A violinist met them as they entered the cubicle and played Moonriver. Keegan smiled at the maĆ®tre d’ as he invited them to be seated.

'I’ll leave you for a moments, Conrad,’ the maĆ®tre d’ said.

‘Thank you, Simon.’

As Keegan sat down, he said, ‘You’ve been here before?’

‘My favourite restaurant would you guess?’

‘Never have guessed.’ Keegan laughed.

‘Simon is my sister’s husband.’

‘I guess it’s always better to have a connection in the restaurant business. This is nice, Conrad. Too nice. I can’t afford to eat in a place like this.’

‘Who said anything about paying?’

‘I can’t expect you to pay for this, bro.’

‘I asked you out. It’s on me. All I want is for you to enjoy this.’

Keegan smiled at him with a softness in his eyes. An appreciation. ‘Next time it’s on me.’

‘Yup. And I don’t mind KFC.’

Both of them laughed and from that moment the evening turned into one filled with music, wine and good Italian cuisine.

Getting to know a person is always like finding a new product. That may sound beaten and clichĆ©d but it’s true. As the evening wore on, they spoke about life and the universe, girlfriends and special friends and what friendship meant to them.

‘Do you have a special lady?’ Keegan asked.

‘A special lady, you mean as in girlfriend?’

‘Yes.”

‘No. Nothing like that. I can’t afford a girl. That’s not to say that I haven’t ever had a girlfriend. I have. Didn’t turn out well at all.’

‘Sorry. I’m prying here.’

‘Not at all. We had a so-so relationship right from the start. My sister asked us to babysit for them once. That night we had sex. Embarrassing for me, but not for her apparently. I was a virgin. Had no idea what to do. I know I didn’t cum inside her. So when she told my parents and family that she was pregnant, I almost married her. She didn’t tell me first. She ran to my mom and told her instead and before I knew it I was hauled over the coals by everyone. But my mom insisted that she be tested before I committed. Thankfully the test came back negative. I wasn’t ready for a family. Damn, at 18, who is? Anyway, we went on a last date. It was then I told her that we weren’t ready for each other. She asked why and I told her the truth.’

‘Wow. That’s some story. What did you tell her?’

‘I told her I had feelings for guys. I simply wanted to sleep with her to see if I could sleep with a woman.’

‘You said that? Selfish, don’t you think.’

‘No. I knew I would never marry her. But at the same time I felt as though she tried to trap me.’

‘What did she say when you told her you're gay?’

‘She cried, she said all of her boyfriends had told her that they were gay.’

‘Oh no. You’re serious?’

‘Dead serious. In a way it was so funny. In another it was damned sad, but that ended our relationship. Now, what about you? Tell me about Jean.’

‘She looks after me, there’s no doubt about that. Helps me whenever she can. Transport that kind of thing.’

'You have any special feelings for her?'

'You mean is she my girlfriend?'

'I could have asked if you sleep with her.'

'I do not sleep with Jean. We don't have that kind of relationship. It's platonic. All platonic.'

'Maybe from your side, but from what I've seen, I think she wants more than just a friendship.'

'It's not going to happen.'

‘And what do you think of me?’

Keegan sipped at his wine. ‘I think you’re amazing. And this….all this…is very special. You care. You’re a fine guy, Mr Smith, and I’m happy that you and I are friends.’

Conrad responded by turning away from Keegan's gaze. The sadness in his face caught in the light.

‘Wanna tell me about what you’re thinking?’ Keegan asked.

‘I…I was kind of hoping that….I don’t know, I’m being very unreasonable…’

‘Hoping what?’

‘That you…that you were attracted to me in some way. I’ve watched you since you were a freshman and always been too scared to approach you. Now that we’re finally friends, I’ve gone and fucked it up.’

Attraction. Keegan held his glass to his lips for a moment and contemplated the word while Conrad's brown eyes searched for an honest answer instead of glancing nervously about the room. Keegan had observed his directness earlier that day even though there seemed to be a strange quirkiness to it; he displayed humility, subtlety and tact. Coming to Keegan's rescue earlier required an impulsive, positive and self-confident nature. Attraction.

Keegan smiled and nodded his head in the affirmative. He reached for Conrad's hand and held it gently. ‘No…no… don’t think like that Conrad. I am attracted to you "in some way". If I wasn't, this dinner would never be happening. My problem is that I've never felt like this before about anyone. The other problem is I must discover what it is that’s stopping me from having a relationship. It’s bugged me for years.’

Conrad held his hand tighter. ‘I'm not hitting on you and I don't want to scare you and if you think I'm coming on too strong, just say so and I'll back off. Can I be perfectly honest with you?'

'I wouldn't expect it any other way.'

'I looked at you today in the locker room when I helped you strap on your prosthetics, and I noticed that…'

'What did you notice?'

'I could have sworn you had a semi hard-on'

A moment of silence followed.

'I'll be honest with you too. When you placed your hand on my thigh, the heat was incredible. It felt natural. It felt right having your hand there. And then you kissed my neck and my mind flipped 360 degrees. I…I've never felt like that before.'

'I would like to think that I can make you feel that way again.'

'I…I think I'd like that. But I need time for it to register.'

'Then time I will give you. But, I'm not going to stop thinking about you, and I'm not going to stop touching you.' Conrad said, his hand slid over Keegan's gently, and when Simon approached to take their order, he didn't remove it.

'I think I can handle that.' Keegan said breathlessly, his heart throbbing. The fullness of his cock wanting escape.

Blurb

With the legal trouble behind them, Daniel Caplin and Rafael Argon are ready to settle into a low key d/s relationship, but life is unrelenting, when blackmail shatters their illusion of happily ever after. Pictures from one of the Rafael’s public scenes instill fear into his new Submissive, Daniel, acting as a wedge driving the new couple apart.

The building peril in George’s community weighs heavy on his shoulders as he struggles to find the culprit while hiding his feelings for his new house guest. Jesse is torn between ending his marriage, picking up a rebound he should have left fifteen years in the past, and the dangling carrot of a possible relationship with a man. He is forced to fight for what he wants most, a leap he may be too chicken to take.

In the sequel to Legally Bound George battles to take down an unknown enemy, while watching helpless, as those he cares for most are broken beyond repair. Can Rafael and Daniel rebuild their trust after it's broken with lies?

Excerpt

The back elevator dinged as he approached, and the doors slid back to reveal Jesse's face. He had circles under his eyes and worry lines in his forehead. Two fingers held a garment bag over one shoulder and a duffle over his other.

“Is it still okay if I stay?” He put a smile on his lips that George knew was fake.

“But of course. Let me help you.” George approached him and tried to take the bag, but Jesse didn’t move to hand it over.

“I’ve got it.”

“Don’t be absurd. I would have a slave do it, but he’s rather tied up at the moment.”

The statement earned a chuckle out of Jesse, and he gave up the bag. Even hurt Jesse had a light in his blue eyes and his heart on his sleeve, a trait that made him wholly unique compared to the masks most wore to impress George.

“I can stay on the sofa or something if the slaves use the guest rooms.”

George laughed and turned his back to stalk down the hall. When he didn’t hear Jesse following, he cast a glance over his shoulder.

“Slaves in bed … how naive you really are, handsome.”

Jesse started after him, brow creased. “Where do they sleep then?” He caught up and followed George to the other side of the penthouse.

He realized Jesse was serious, and he laughed throatily again. “I have cages for them.”

“I love you and Daniel, but your lifestyle is fucked.”

Author Bio

When not staying up all night writing, J.R Gray can be found basking in the warm glow of the Miami sun, or at the gym where it's half assumed Gray is a permanent resident. A dominant, pilot, and sword fighting enthusiast, Gray finds it hard to be in the passenger seat of any car. Gray frequently interrupts real life, including normal sleep patterns, to jot down nonsense. The bane of Gray's existence are commas, and even though it's been fully acknowledged they are necessary, they continue to baffle and bewilder.

If Gray wasn't writing…well, that's not possible. The buildup of untold stories would haunt Gray into an early grave or possibly a mental institution where the tales would end up on the walls in crayon and finger paint.

Cast The First Stone by Katherine Halle

Hi, so Iyana has graciously allowed me to take over her blog today to talk about my new release from Torquere called Cast The First Stone.

It's about a hunter, Julian, who's hunting a rogue werewolf and ends up in another Alpha's territory. Julian hunts because not only did rogue werewolves kill his parents, but one turned his sister against her will. You could he has a bit of a grudge.

Alpha Stone, the Alpha who rules the territory Julian is hunting in has a particular hatred of rogues or anyone that turns someone against their will. But there's a dark secret in his past that when brought to life will change the game forever, for both of them.

This was a fun story to write because the world of shifters opens up so many possibilities and you're not locked into any one thing. It's very freeing.

I'm sharing the Official Blurb, Cover Art, an excerpt, and my bio below. I hope you check it out.

Thanks!

<333

Katherine

Official Blurb:

On the trail of a rogue werewolf, hunter Julian Hart takes on more than he can handle when he meets up with Alpha Stone. His hunt uncovers secrets within lies and a plot for vengeance no one saw coming. When the smoke clears, what Julian finds at the end of the trail will forever change his life and the lives of everyone he holds dear.

Excerpt:

"I took the liberty of moving your stuff from the motel. I had it put into one of my guestrooms. You'll stay here tonight."

"Now wait just a damn minute." I could feel the anger whirling inside me. How dare he move my things without my permission? I didn't want to stay here in his house. The sole human amidst a pack of wolves. Literally.

In a flash, he had me pinned to the wall, his arm across my throat. Just as fast, I had my knife out and pressed against his side. He laughed, the rich sound washing over me, sending my blood places I didn't want it to go. "TouchƩ." The pressure on my throat loosened minutely. "Seems we are at an impasse. I want you here. I can't keep you safe at the motel. There are some in my territory that don't take too kindly to hunters."

"You mean like Eve?"

"Yes, like Eve. I can't control every single werewolf activity that happens. There will always be someone that makes a bad choice, despite my orders that you are offlimits.

I would hate to have to punish someone after the fact. I'd rather just prevent it from happening in the first place."

"Who says I would be safe under your roof?" I met his blue eyes defiantly, pressing the knife into his side enough to slice through the fabric of his shirt. He hissed as the blade laced with wolfsbane bit into his skin. I felt a momentary pang of regret, but it vanished when he pushed closer, nosing at the pulse in my neck.

"I can smell your excitement," he breathed out, his lips moving over my skin.

I pushed against him. "Can you smell my anger?" I snarled.

Another dark chuckle washed over my skin. "Yes, and it smells delicious. Now, are we done? You're not going back to that fleabag motel."

Bio:

Katherine Halle is known as the “Queen of Happy Endings.” She firmly believes that no matter what the obstacles, what the struggles, or how much angst is involved in the journey, that the ending should always be a happy one.

Katherine’s love of the written word started at a very early age with repeated demands of “read to me” to any who would listen. It was only natural that writing would follow. As a child, she could often be found daydreaming, thinking up fanciful stories and writing them down. Now she does it on a laptop. Much faster.

Katherine’s favorite animal is her dog. She likes books, movies, and quirky television shows, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Hart of Dixie. She loves cooking and watching cooking shows. She has lived in both Europe and the United States and loved both. When she’s not writing or plotting, Katherine enjoys spending her time listening to music, reading books written by other people, and being with her family.

DamiansDisciplineFS

Book Name: Damian’s Discipline (Collars & Cuffs #5)

Author Name: K.C. Wells & Parker Williams

Author Bios:

K.C. Wells:

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C.Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way.

K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a mĆ©nage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings – writing about men in love was even hotter...

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career.

The laptop still has no idea of what hit it... it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

Parker Williams:

Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family.

Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

General Excerpt:

Damian

I LOVED it when it was evening and all was quiet and peaceful. No traffic noise intruded into the house, and in the lounge, the only sound was the slow ticking of the clock on the mantelpiece. Give me a mechanical clock any day. Not that I had anything against more modern timepieces, but there was something soothing about the sound. The clock had been my grandmother’s, and I took loving care of it, making sure it was oiled and wound. Right then my evening was perfect: the tick of the clock, a glass of Cabernet on the table next to me, and a worn, hardcover Sherlock Holmes novel in my hands. I’d lost count of how many times I’d read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but re-reading a favorite book was a warm, comforting experience. The wine created a warm glow inside me. I took another sip.

And then my phone rang.

The temptation to ignore its clamoring call was huge. I was happy, comfortable, and anyone ringing me at home during the evening had to want something. All my friends knew my routines, especially since Oliver....

I closed my eyes. I could almost hear that edge of amusement in his voice. “You going to answer that, Sir?” And yes, I could see the gleam in his eye as he awaited my reaction, tense in nervous anticipation. Brat loved pushing my buttons. With a sigh, I picked up the call.

“Damian? It’s Leo. We need your help.”

I placed the wine on the table. “What can I do for you?” My interest was piqued immediately. It had been quite a while since the co-owner of my BDSM club had called me at home.

“Sorry to disturb you, but you were the first person I could think of. We have a boy. He’s nineteen, and he needs help.”

Cover Reveal: His Cemetery Doll by Brantwijn Serrah

Coming October 24th!

A new novel from Brantwijn Serrah and Breathless Press

HisCemeteryDoll_1650x2500

There's a woman in the graveyard.

Conall Mackay never put stock in ghost stories. Not even after thirteen years serving as the cemetery keeper in the village of Whitetail Knoll. But things change. Now, his daughter is dreaming of a figure among the tombstones. The grounds are overrun by dark thorns almost faster than Con can clear them. White fog and gray ribbons creep up on him in the night, and a voiceless beauty beckons him from the darkest corners of the graves.

When the world he knows starts to unravel, Conall might
finally be forced to believe.

Excerpt:

He hadn't slept long before he heard sounds from down in the kitchen below.
"Shyla!" he called gruffly. "Weren't you heading into town?"
No answer came from below, but the sounds of pots clanging told him his daughter toyed about down there. Perhaps she'd decided not to leave him after all and taken it into her head to now re-organize the house, since he'd so clearly wanted her to stay out of the cemetery. With a low groan, Conall rolled out of bed and stepped out into the hall.
"Shyla!" he called again, coming to the head of the stairs. If she had stayed home, she could at least do it without making a lot of noise.
"Shyla, I—"
He staggered then, as the hallway dimmed. Afternoon light flickered strangely, lightning cracking a dismal sky outside, and in the space of time afterward everything else darkened. Conall darted a glance around him as the house fell into shadow.
From the top of the stairwell, he saw the first whispering tendrils of white fog.
The heat of adrenaline shot through his limbs. Conall stumbled back into his bedroom, even as the fog pursued. His gaze shot to the window as the last gray light of day faded away and eerie darkness replaced it, like an eclipse sliding over the sun.
More cold mists veiled the glass, dancing and floating. Trembling overtook him as he spun to find another escape.
He froze, finding himself face-to-face with the broken mask of the cemetery doll.
"You—" he gasped. His breath came out white as the fog enveloped them both, leaving a space of mere inches between them, so he could still see her expressionless face. Gray ribbons wound and curled through the air around him.
"Who are you?" he asked.
The doll stared up at him. He sensed her searching, looking into his eyes even though hers remained covered. She held him there with her unseen gaze, until her cool, cold hand came up to touch his bare chest.
Conall let out a low breath. He closed his eyes, and a shudder of strange ease rippled through his body. The cool pads of her fingers ran down his sternum, to his navel. The silky ribbons brushed along his side.
Then he noticed her other hand. She lifted it up, to her own chest, and she held something tightly in her fingers: Shyla's stuffed dog.
"I made that...for my daughter," he whispered. The woman with the broken mask tilted her head down toward the small toy, studying it. For a fraction of a second, her fingers appeared to tighten around it. She returned her gaze to him, then, and the toy fell from her grip into the fog, forgotten.
"Wait—" he said, but she brought her other hand up to his chest to join the first, and he recognized eagerness in the way she pressed her icy skin against his. Her face tilted to him, and then came her lips again, ivory and flawless.
"I—" Conall breathed. "I...don't understand..."
Her fingers slid up, around his neck, but he pulled away.
"No, this...this can't real. I'm asleep. I must be."
Gray ribbons danced, pulling him back to her, and she stroked his face. He sucked in a breath at her touch and found his own hand coming up to brush hers.
"You're so cold," he said. "Like stone...but..."
Her cool touch thrilled him; it made his skin tingle and the heat of his own body sing. Her perfect flesh did, in fact, prove soft under his hands, as if the contact with his worn calluses infused cold ivory with yearning. She caressed his cheek, and Conall leaned into it. Before he could stop himself, he bowed his head to her and kissed her frozen lips.

Blurb(s):

Outted at thirteen, Orin Merritt left home after high school hoping to escape the hell his life had become. Ten years later when a tornado destroys his childhood home and kills his parents, Orin finds himself in an entirely new nightmare. One he can't run away from.

Blaming himself for failing the two people who always loved and supported him, he returns home and confronts his past in the person of his one-time best friend, Thomas Kennett.  Thomas not only rejected him when Orin came out, he led the group that tormented Orin into leaving.

As he struggles to deal with his grief, Orin also labors to fulfill the pledge he made to his parents before their death.  In the process, Orin learns that sometimes when you go away to find yourself, you leave the answers you're looking for behind.

Excerpt:

"Orin, I won't." Thomas stood a bit straighter and his eyes lost the sad, pleading shine. "I won't hurt you again."

"You can't promise that. Things happen." Orin watched as his words dragged Thomas back from the brink of hope.

"If you truly believe that, then there's nothing I can do. You have to believe there's a chance or else I can't prove it."

"That's not what I'm telling you." He locked his gaze on Thomas's. "If I say yes, I'll have to take down the walls I surrounded my heart with to keep it safe. Once it's gone, I won't be able bring it back if I get hurt. Not now.

"So what I'm saying is, think about what you’re asking me to risk. If you really love me, ask yourself if are you willing to risk what will happen to me if you can't keep your promise."

He knew how unfair he'd been, but self-preservation had been a skill he'd honed over the past fifteen years. He needed Thomas to know just how serious the repercussion could be for his actions.

"Orin, I . . . I . . . how . . .?" Their faces were inches apart, and Thomas moved in for another kiss.

This felt different than the first—less urgent, but no less intense. Orin trembled at the leap he was about to take. When they stepped back, Thomas rubbed his thumb across Orin's cheek.

"I do love you, Orin. More than I can say. So much, that I'm not willing to risk what will happen if I fail you again. I don't have that right."

Thomas's lips quivered and the tears welled at the bottom of his eyes. He kissed Orin's forehead gently.

"Good-bye, Orin. Please be happy." Without looking back, Thomas walked to the front door, opened it, and walked away.

A Reviewer's Corner: Anna Lund

We have the lovely Anna Lund this morning. She's just so awesome. Don't forget to check out her sites!
1431042_74889772

- Hi! Please tell us a little about yourself.

To sum it up, I read a lot, I translate technical manuals, and then I ride horses. Mostly in that specific order. As I hate numbered bullets (I can never get the formatting to work right with bullets), I took all of them out of this document. That says more about me than anything else, I think.

- Do you remember the first time you joined our Facebook writer-reader community? What book(s) brought you here?

It was actually the format that brought me to Facebook—I was fed up with trying to explain myself in 140 characters on Twitter. Also, all my reviewer buddies were hanging out here, so I thought I’d try it out. When Goodreads blew up in our faces last year, I never looked back.

- Do you also review for a blog?

Yes, I review for My Fiction Nook Nook http://www.myfictionnook.com; we are a bunch of good-natured and serious reviewers. My absolute favorite books also get blogged on my own blog, http://annalund2011.blogspot.com

- What is the most interesting experience you got so far?

Getting to know one of my favorite authors ever, Cody Kennedy. I feel blessed being a friend. I got to work with Cody over a whole month in August, doing our Author of the Month-feature on My Fiction Nook—that was awesome! (http://www.myfictionnook.com/2014/08/author-of-month-cody-kennedy-week-one_7.html )

- What genre(s) interest you most? Why?

I mostly read m/m and YA m/m. This is because I am sick and tired of the internalized misogyny that just keeps seeping through in every.single.m/f.romance.story. Sick of it. In m/m the author has to invent a new way of dealing with a couple’s day to day actions, and it doesn’t stink of gender roles. I also enjoy stories for young adults because of the good messages of hope that are usually to be found there.

- Are you also an aspiring author? How far are you with your writing?

I write flash fiction almost every week, at times quite successfully, and I have a novel that is coming along, slowly. It started with the 2013 NaNoWriMo happening, and I hope to whip it into some sort of shape before November 2014, when I am doing the NaNo thing again. It is around 80k words right now, but needs work.

- (Please include any information about your blog/site if there is any.)

I blog something every month, books or happenings, on my own blog http://annalund2011.blogspot.com and I am reviewing consistently on Booklikes http://AnnaLund2011.booklikes.com and on My Fiction Nook http://www.myfictionnook.com
