Mid Week Tease: Misunderstandings

Thank you so much, Sandra Bunino, for hosting this event every week!

Welcome to my Mid Week Tease, and this week I'm going to share with you an excerpt from my newest release, Misunderstandings, from JMS Books. It's a M/M contemporary romance, and here is the blurb:

Being insecure isn’t good for Parker Williams’ image as an indie movie actor, but he can’t help it. He seems to forget that he snatched an Oscar from the one hit movie he made, and he keeps comparing himself with the success of his boyfriend Declan, who is a blockbuster star. Things get worse when Parker sees how close Declan is to his sexy costar, Ryan Dexter.

Parker thinks he’s no match for Ryan and leaves without confronting Declan. When he disappears, a worried Declan tries to contact him without result. Then he finds Parker’s cell phone, left behind at the house, and Declan doesn’t know what to do. Should he let Parker go and turn to Ryan for comfort? Is his relationship with Ryan only onscreen, or is there something more between the two leading men? Or is Parker really the star of Declan's heart?

Excerpt:

Parker carefully positioned the box in the middle of the bed as if it were some kind of a precious treasure. Stepping back, tipping his head sideways, he gazed contemplatively at the box.

He had no clue as to what had made him think of buying this box of chocolates. At that moment Parker thought it would be a great idea to send it to Declan.

But now he wasn't so certain anymore.

What would be the meaning of the gift? How would Declan feel, receiving this? What would he think when he had it in his hands?

Sitting down on the bed, gaze on the deluxe pack with images of luscious-looking chocolates on it, Parker was bickering with himself. He wasn’t the one who should apologize (that was the message behind this gift, wasn’t it?). Declan was the one who cheated. Thus, he had to make the first move.

Yet, his heart reminded Parker that he’d turned away from Declan without giving him a chance to talk. Ryan coming to Declan’s house that night might not have meant anything. Parker shouldn’t not have fretted about the zealous way Ryan greeted Declan. Ryan had always been like that, hadn’t he?

The point wasn't who should ask for an apology. He who humbles himself before others, would emerge a noble man, was that not what the proverb said?

Parker drew out a blank card and a pen he'd bought from the hotel's souvenir shop. All right, so he would send the chocolates after all. The only question remaining was what he should write in the card. What did he actually want to say to Declan?

Would that be ...

I miss you. No. What if Declan never even thought twice about Parker’s leaving and had forgotten that he existed?

How about ...

I trust you.

No ... Parker just couldn’t write it. There were so many questions he wanted Declan to answer. It saddened Parker, though, to think that he couldn’t give his absolute trust to his lover.

I’m sorry.

Parker still thought he might’ve made a mistake leaving Declan like that. But -- he wasn’t the one cheating. He could never cheat on his boyfriend. He loved Declan too much. So ...

I love you. Yes. Parker was simply expressing his feelings and Declan was under no obligation to love him back. But would that statement sound like a pathetic plea?

Parker sighed dejectedly. Perhaps he should simply abandon this idea altogether. If only Declan would call him. Had Declan really thought things settled between them?
