An Author's Corner: Elizabella Gold

· Hi! Please tell us a little about yourself.

I'm Elizabella Gold. I write m/m romance, though I'm hoping to publish m/f romance at some point. M/M romance seems to be easier for me to write for some reason, haha. Reading is by far my favorite activity, with writing a close second. I love horror, historical, and literary fiction, and am a voracious reader of various kinds of non-fiction, especially history, psychology, and biographies. I love 80s pop culture, pro wrestling, horror movies, and pizza, among many other things

· What was your first book being published? Would you tell us more about it?

My first book was Hollow in My Heart, which was published by Silver Publishing. I enjoyed writing it, since I love horror and mysteries. It was gratifying to get something published in genres I admire.

· What genre(s) do you write?

I write m/m romance, typically contemporary with heavy doses of humor, and I enjoy writing historical or paranormal fiction occasionally.

· What is the most interesting experience you got so far?

It's always interesting to me when I get a nice message from a reader, or when I'm writing, and a character acts in a way that I hadn't originally intended (which I believe happens quite often for writers :D).

· What are the challenges you find in writing?

I find it challenging to write beyond what I know. Part of me would love to write an epic fantasy, like really build a world and history for these characters, but I guess I'm a bit scared to try it. I tend to write short, contemporary fiction, so I feel compelled to stay in my comfort zone.

A Reviewer's Corner: Cathy Brockman

Hi! I'm so happy to have Cathy Brockman today on our little corner. Welcome, Cathy!

 

1. Hi! Please tell us a little about yourself. Hi! Thank you so much for inviting me here! I am honored! I am retired from 10 years in sales management. I live in the mid-south with my Hubby, dog, to kittens and 4 outdoor cats. I love to read, cook, sew, crochet and craft when I am not writing.


2. Do you remember the first time you joined our Facebook writer-reader community? It has been so long ago I don’t remember exactly when or the first book I have read. What book(s) brought you here? Ive bought so many I couldn’t tell you the names of them all. I generally buy on average 4-6 books a month not counting the ones I receive for review.


3. Do you also review for a blog? Yes I have reviewed for MMgoodbook reviews http://mmgoodbookreviews.wordpress.com/ since they began. I think it’s like going on 4 years now I was one of the first reviewers there. What is the most interesting experience you got so far? I reviewed one book that I had though would be so good from the blurb ad description. I wrote the review and was bashed by the author and her colleagues on Goodreads and amazon. I was stunned. It was a 3 star review. It took a few days but the situation was handled. I guess out of 4 years one author getting mad isn’t bad since I send in anywhere from 3-8 reviews a week on average. We do have so much fun in the group talking to each other and joking about someone trying to take our favorite authors or genres.


4. What genre(s) interest you most? I will read just about any genre since I like variety. I read both MM and MF and occasionally FF. I like the contemporary, angsty, funny, and sweet stories as well as historical, new adult, YA and especially western and anything vampire or shifter or witchcraft. I prefer low to moderate heat but sometimes like a hotter racier story. Why? I love variety and trying new things.


5. Are you also an aspiring author? Yes. How far are you with your writing? I have out one children’s book that is self-published called Luke’s Dragon by Cathy Boyd. I have two MF paranormal romances in final stages of edits and am hoping to publish one the last week of this month if all goes well with the editing and perhaps one by the end of the year. Love Bites ~~First Bites is up on good-reads now. I also have a short MM cowboy story at a publisher I am hoping to hear back on any day and am working on a new story I hope to release in segments free on my blog starting Fridays in November.

A Reader's Corner: Victoria Ann DeBono

I'm so happy to have our first post on the new column, Our Corners, which will feature readers, authors, artists, reviewers, betas, editors, and publishers. Our very first guest is Victoria Ann DeBono. Please give a very warm welcome to her! :D

 

1. Hi! Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello my name is Victoria Ann DeBono and I love everything Indie Author and books. I live in Adelaide Australia. I am a mother of 3 and happily married to my best friend for 22 years.

2. Do you remember the first time you joined our Facebook writer-reader community? What book(s) brought you here?

I started following and being part of the writer- reader community 3 years ago. I started my journey back into reading from the infamous FSG and then quickly discovered an amazing Indie following. I started with Kelly Elliott, Stacy Borel, Tasha Gwartney Marie Force, Rene Folsom and Belle Andre. However I soon discovered the Australian authors I support and adore. Lila Rose, Lola Stark, Carmen Jenna, Lisa Swallow, Jennifer Ryder, Elle Raven, Bella Jewel, Belle Aurora, Missy Johnson and Velvet Reed to name just a few.

3. Do you also review for a blog? What is the most interesting experience you got so far?

I review each book I complete, I believe the best way to support an author is through a review. Also as a Beta I love to be part of the process and enjoy giving positive feedback and support to my new friends. There is no better feeling as a reader/Beta than seeing your name in the acknowledgements and knowing my hard work and time is recognised. Meeting many of my heroes this year at Indie Authors Down Under 2014 caused me to fangirl like a 15 year old, best day ever!

4. What genre(s) interest you most? Why?

Romance, Erotica, Historical, M/M, YA and Paranormal. Why? Love, I love a HEA I am a hopeless romantic.

5. Are you also an aspiring author? How far are you with your writing?

My pen name is Vicki Vallen and I am almost finished my debut WIP, it is scary, full of self doubt and so exciting. I am still to do all the business side of self publishing through I can see the end is nearing, bites nails. I have only a few chapters to finish and I have recently shared the first few chapters with my beta team. I feel very blessed to be part of this wonderful community.
